SuperFly Fly Tying - Feathers
Standard Cul de Canard

Cul de Canard, or CDC, as it is commonly referred to, is a finely-fibered duck feather with unique floating capabilities. French for Duck Bottom, CDC is buoyant due to its natural oils and does not require additional floatants. CDC is often used for tying emergers and dry fly patterns. It can be stacked and tied in as a wing; tied in by the tips and palmered, used as a soft hackle feather; spun into dubbing loops or used as a dubbing material. Note: When using floatants on patterns utilizing CDC, be sure not to apply it to the CDC plume, as this will counteract its natural buoyancy.

Duck Quills

Duck Quills are most often used for wings and tails on wet flies. Equal sized slips of quill are cut from a left and a right side feather and tied in together to create a classic wet fly wing. Quills of different or contrasting colors can be married to create unique combinations such as the classic "Trout Fin", a combination of white, black and orange.

Goose Biots

Biots are the leading edge of the flight quills of large birds. They have a sharp taper and are often used on nymph patterns such as the prince nymph. Goose Biots can be used to create tails and wings on nymphs, spines on stickleback patterns and pincers on hellgrammite patterns. Biots can also be wound onto a hook shank as a body material on small dry flies and midges, creating an interesting segmented body.

Partridge is widely used in the assembly of soft hackles, spiders and nymph patterns. The fibers are perfect for creating natural looking legs, wing cases, collars and tails on nymph patterns.
