Fishing Highlights -- In Kentucky, you'll find world-class crappie fishing, the best trophy brown trout fishery in the Eastern United States, excellent reservoirs for quality largemouth, and the home of the world record smallmouth. Walleye, muskie, striped bass and pan fishing are all available -- and more. From wading clear mountain streams to fly-fish brook and rainbow trout, to zipping around on expansive 50,000-acre lakes in a bass boat, or casting the tailwaters of thousands of miles of river for sauger or catfish, you can find a wide array of fishing to suit your fancy in the Commonwealth.
Hunting HIghlights -- The Bluegrass State has been a top producer of Boone & Crockett Club trophy deer for the last decade with an overall herd size of 900,000. The hunter success rate for wild turkey hunting is comparable to any state in the nation with a stable flock of 225,000 birds statewide. Kentucky is now home to the largest elk herd east of the Mississippi, with over 6,000 free ranging animals and the number of lottery permits issued for elk hunting continues to increase annually.
