Long Island Sound is more than a 1,300 square miles with approximately 600 miles of shoreline. The entire coastline of Connecticut and part of New York sit on Long Island Sound. The average depth is 60-120 feet deep. Temperatures run from near freeze in winter to around 70 in summer. Long Island Sound boasts more than 120 species of finfish, including 21 tropical species that stray here seasonally. At least 50 species spawn in the Sound. See this are on Google Maps.

Much of the saltwater sport fishing in both New York and Connecticut center in Long Island Sound. Featured species include Black Sea Bass, Bluefish, False Albacore, Summer Flounder, Striped Bass, Tautog, Weakfish and Winter Flounder, Scup.
