B. Everett Jordan (Jordan) Lake is a 13,900 acres lake near Raleigh and Durham. It is known for good fishing. Parks and Recreation operates eight recreation areas on the lake.
Fishing is a popular sport on the lake. Jordan Lake has become one of North Carolina's premiere fisheries. There are seven main species of game fish including largemouth bass, crappie, striper, hybrids, bream, catfish, and white perch. Underwater stumps, logs and rocks help create a very good environment. Also, there is an active fish attractor (structure) program going on. Jordan Lake offers fishing opportunities for the novice to seasoned angler. A state fishing license is required, and rules of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission must be obeyed. The striper season on Jordan Lake typically runs from April through December with a peak in the May time frame. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has stocked striped bass in B. Everett Jordan Reservoir since 1996 and striped bass hybrids, also known as Bodie bass long before that. Since 2000 the Commission stocks only striped bass in Jordan Lake. By stocking striped bass instead of Bodie bass, the Commission protects the native striped bass population downstream in the Cape Fear River while continuing to provide anglers an additional sport fish in Jordan Lake. Jordan Lake supports a good striped bass fishery. There are very ample opportunities for anglers who enjoy catching three- to five-pound and larger striped bass. There are several professional guide services operating on Lake Jordan. These include:
There are 24 boat ramps around the lake. Boat ramps open 24 hours per day are located at Ebenezer Church and Robeson Creek recreation areas. All other boat ramps are open during park hours, and visitors must exit the park before the park's closing time. Each recreation area has boat-launching ramps providing easy entry to the water. Be cautious of underwater hazards such as stumps, logs and rocks. Jordan Lake area has good facilities. There are more than 1,000 family campsites. All sites include picnic tables, grills and trash containers. Showers, rest rooms and a dump station are centrally located. Swimming is permitted in designated areas only
