Hatteras Island is a small island quickly reached but very far from the
hustle and bustle of many of North Carolina's cities.
Hatteras
is a recreational fisherman's paradise with something for everybody:
Hatteras
is surf
fishing heaven. Cape Point is one of the very best known
surf fishing spots. The Point is ideal as it sticks out into the Atlantic
Ocean where good waves and great natural currents wash all types of
recreational fish by. Literally anything can be caught here. This is
very near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Much of the entire island accessible
to the walking fisherman. Also, motor vehicles are still legal in many
areas.
GMCO
Maps and Charts are accurate, informative and useful maps and charts
for many popular waters. Good information for beginning boaters,
experienced cruisers, recreational fishermen, or top tournament
anglers while on the water. |

Wade
fishermen, including fly and light tackle fishermen, may best be able
to fish off of the sound side of the island. These waters are
shallow and protected from the pounding surf and are very productive
for speckled trout, striped bass, flounder, and smaller puppy drum.
This are is also prime for those who wish to fish out of a kayak or
canoe.
Hatteras
Island has three fishing piers in Hatteras
Island (Rodanthe), Avon
and Cape Hatteras Fishing Pier (Frisco Pier). A very good write up is
at Hatteras
Beach Access ... Again, these NC
piers are located in prime fish waters and have everything necessary
to set you up for a trip. During prime time, summer to early fall, most
of these piers are open for fishing 24 hours a day.
Just
off the shore fishermen will find very productive waters for
king mackerel, cobia, amberjack, and large red drum. There are many
good charters to choose from but it is also very easy to launch your
boat from several launches and to stock it from several marinas.
Hatteras
based boats are very near prime the Gulf Stream and other prime waters.
These waters yield white and blue marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna,
wahoo, king mackerel, and dolphin (mahi-mahi). This is some of the best
on the east coast.
From 500 pound bluefin tuna off shore to small-ish fish in the sounds,
the island offers something for everyone. Have fun fishing near Ocracoke!
Come fish and bring family and friends because of the many other entertainment
opportunities offered.
