Maryland has abundant freshwater, bay, and ocean fishing opportunities including the Chesapeake Bay. Maryland is especially popular for its abundant marshes, creeks and ponds. With 4,400 miles of shoreline, Maryland has an abundance of charter boats just waiting to be fished. East Coast Striper fishing is at its best in the Chesapeake Bay. Several Maryland lakes and reservoirs offer excellent largemouth bass, trout, and striped bass fishing.

Maryland has a fine trout fishery supporting rainbow, brook, brown, cutthroat and lake trout. The Potomac River holds the state record for brook, brown and cutthroat trout and supports a robust population. Good still water trout locations include the Savage River Reservoir which holds the Maryland state record for rainbow, Deep Creek Lake, Liberty Reservoir, Rocky Gorge Reservoir, Triadelphia Reservoir, and Youghiogheny River Lake.
