Virginia has a very healthy
trout fishery. Virginia contains over 2,800 miles of trout streams in addition
to numerous other waters. The total includes over 2,300 miles of
wild trout streams and about 600 miles of water inhabited with stocked trout.
The Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains provide the elevation to maintain
low water temperatures year-round, while the valleys between these ranges
contain the unique limestone formations necessary to produce highly productive
spring creeks.
Here some places to consider:
Virginia
Department of Game and Inland Fisheries -- Virginia contains over
2,800 miles of trout streams, in addition to other waters. Visit the stocking
schedule.
Grayson
Highlands State Park -- Nearly 10 miles of wild trout stream lie
within Grayson Highlands State Park. The cool mountain streams offer
those fishing breathtaking scenery while angling for native brook and
wild rainbow trout. Several park streams are designated "Special Regulation
Wildlife Trout Streams" thus require the use of a single hook and artificial
lures, and all trout less than nine inches long must be released unharmed.
Jefferson
National Forest -- The forests offer excellent opportunities for
both bait and fly fishing. Native brook trout are found in more that
500 miles of streams. Many streams and most lakes are stocked with rainbow
trout. State regulations govern hunting and fishing.
In order to match the hatch here are a couple of good hatch links:
Virgina
Creeper Fly Fisher -- Virginia and Tenn.
Orvis's
Eastern Hatch -- shows hatch schedule with good
links to flies
I would try to figure out the similarities between the charts and fish
the most common. For selective fish on heavy pressured water I fish less
common patterns.
Now go out and enjoy Virginia fabulous trout fishery. Thank a state biologist.
