South Dakota has more than 1,100 square miles of water and contains some of the finest fishing waters in North America. The Missouri River Reservoirs offer some of the best fishing in the upper Midwest but you can also drop your line in our glacial lakes or freshwater streams, stock dams, prairie rivers, and giant reservoirs.

Nearly 30 fish species provide anglers with a variety of fishing adventures. The most popular fish include walleye, salmon, bluegill, crappie, perch, bass, pike, trout, sturgeon, and catfish. South Dakota's fishing season, with some exceptions, is open year-round, providing quality, four-season fishing.
