Ohio is great place to fish. Opportunities absolutely abound on Lake Erie either by private boat or charter. Stream and pier anglers also have an excellent opportunity to catch Lorainquality fish. Ohio boasts of many very fine, smaller lakes and streams producing good recreational fish.

Largemouth bass are one of Ohio’s most popular fish and can be caught in ponds, streams, rivers, and nearly all inland lakes and reservoirs. Ohio sports decent, mostly rainbow and brown, trout in various lakes and ponds and in Clear Creek, Clear Fork River, and the Mad River. Most trout is stocked. There is also good fishing for carp, catfish, panfish, crappie, smallmouth, musky, and pike.

Stream and pier anglers have an excellent opportunity to catch quality-sized steelhead trout from September through May. The DW annually stocks several Lake Erie tributary streams with 6-8" yearling steelhead. These fish migrate out into Lake Erie and spend the summer in the cooler part of the lake before returning to streams during the fall through the spring. Typical steelhead trout caught average 25" long and weigh 5-6 pounds. Ohio's primary steelhead streams are Vermilion, Rocky, Chagrin and Grand rivers and Conneaut Creek plus several others.
