Lake Norman is a 32,000 acre lake with 520 miles of shoreline and a main channel of 34 miles. It is one of North Carolina's better fishing lakes. Stripers, bass, crappie, catfish, and bream can be caught all year on Norman and surrounding lakes.
Lake Norman's striper fishery is good with good catch rates in season. Yet, most of the fish are small and often thin with trophy fish of 20 pounds or more being rare. There are plans in place with the NC Wildlife to better the striper fishery.
 Lake Norman State Park -- Thirteen miles of the shoreline are in the state park, which provides boating access.
