acres and 850 miles of shoreline making it a great fishery for Striper, largemouth, crappie and catfish. It is great fishing and close to several central NC/VA cities. |

Kerr Lake is an Army Corp of Engineers flood control lake. It is approximately 49,000 flooded acres with approximately 800 miles of shoreline. The aerial photo to the left shows the many cuts and coves of the lake. See a detailed map of the lake. Because it is for flood control it can fluctuate, and probably will, by as much as 10 feet a year. Kerr Lake is convenient to NC and VA. It is on I-85 approximately 45 miles from Raleigh 110 from Richmond, and 180 miles from Charlotte. Kerr Lake in known for outdoor sports including camping, boating, skiing, sailing, wind surfing, nature walking, bird watching, golfing and hunting. Kerr lake is also known for its crappie, bass and striper fishing. It also has other fish including catfish and white perch to name just a few. There is not exceptional shore fishing but there is good pier fishing at Bullocksville and Henderson Point. Henderson Point is open 24 hours per day. The Kerr Lake State Park and Recreation Area in Henderson, NC, (252) 438-7791, needs to be checked out.The park offers accessible facilities, boating, camping, a very nice community building, education and events, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and swimming.
