Fishing in Colorado means opportunity a chance
to catch some 35 species of both warm- and cold-water fish. You
will want to fish for Colorado's cutthroat trout including greenback cutthroats
(the state fish), Colorado River cutthroats, and Rio Grande cutthroats
in a cool Rocky Mountain stream [See: Art1, Art2, Art3]. There are many other types of trout as
well [See: Art1]. You may also want to troll for walleye on a sunny plains reservoir [See: Art1, Art2].
And Colorado offers everything in between, too. There are 6,000 miles
of streams and more than 2,000 lakes and reservoirs to choose from.
Colorado's 168 miles of Gold Medal streams provide
outstanding angling opportunities for large trout. These waters
are managed to ensure populations of big fish. Colorado's excellent fishing
opportunities are made even better by the efforts of the Colorado Division
of Wildlife's 18 hatcheries [See: Art1]. The Division of Wildlife stocks 3.3 million
10-inch fish every year. An additional 58 million warm-water species and
13 million subcatchable cold-water species are stocked.
